I would like to say that I am glad NC State finally opened another gymnasium and workout place (which will be behind Carmichael Gym). It is about time that NCSU did that. I am surprised that they put it off for all the years until now, given all the long lines and crowding at Carmichael. There are only four treadmills at Carmichael and one doesn’t even display the total calories burned! And there is always someone using the machines when I would like to go on, and I have to wait about 10 minutes before I can use it. This new recreation center should have opened 2-1/2 years ago when I transferred to NCSU. Now I am graduating this May, and I won’t have a chance to use it this fall!! I am very disappointed that my time at NCSU is coming to a close and I have to miss out on all the new additions to the university (such as the new Free Expression Tunnel). 🙁

Maybe this will help clear things up…
To everyone that is under the impression that my campaign has been spray painting the bricks and sidewalks on campus you will be relieved to know that it is actually spray chalk. It is a water-based solution that comes off of surfaces after a couple of good rains. It is a lot more efficient than chalking the whole campus in a traditional fashion and it will last through at least a rain or two. I hope this helps everyone out and lets you all know that I would never spray paint this campus.

This letter is in response to the criticism both our basketball coach, Herb Sendek, and our football coach, Chuck Amato, have recently received in the Technician. I’m not going to speak about whether or not this criticism is justified because I’m having a hard time deciding that myself.
I would, however, like to address the sometimes-unrealistic expectations placed on our athletic programs by the North Carolina State community and their many supporters. Sure everyone who loves this university would love to watch our basketball team finish in the top three in the ACC every year, or participate in the ACC Championship football game each season, but that is simply impractical. With perennial powers Duke and North Carolina in basketball, Miami, Florida State and Virginia Tech in football, how do our fans purpose we finish ahead of these teams? They have more access to recruiting better athletes because they are nationally recognized powers. Obviously, better athletes generate more wins. The coaches at these particular schools do a fantastic job.
Realistically though, anybody can coach players such as Raymond Felton and J.J. Redick in basketball or Devin Hester and Michael Vick in football. This brings me back to my original point; Herb Sendek and Chuck Amato do a fine job coaching the players that are willing to come to NCSU. Do they challenge for ACC or National Championships every year? No. Should they? How should success be defined at North Carolina State?
