STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!Way to go N.C. State fans; you have successfully ousted the basketball coach that took us to five straight NCAA Tournament appearances, a school record set by Jim Valvano. Only 64 teams in the entire country have the chance to play in the NCAA, and this year we were one of only 32 teams in the country to make it to the second round. Am I the only person in this University who sees this as a major accomplishment? Face it fans, our 1983 run was a fluke, a Cinderella story. The same N.C. State fans who have been calling for Herb’s resignation are the same fans who claim the ACC is the best conference in the country. So why do you expect N.C. State to consistently win in this difficult conference? Sure, Herb was no Roy Williams or Mike Krzyzewski; but, what coach at this high status wants to coach N.C. State? … NONE! Also, how do you expect N.C. State to get the best recruits when you have Duke and UNC in the same conference (to be honest if I was a top pick player I would play for Duke or UNC)?Well, I guess people better start writing in for the next coach’s resignation. Wolfpack fans, anticipate that we will not be going to the NCAA for a number of years. The basketball team will need to rebuild for the next few years, no major recruits will come to N.C. State if we are rebuilding (rebuilding = more losses and not tournament appearances), and more disgruntled fans calling for another resignation.Just remember Mike Krzyzewski had a 38-47 record in his first three seasons with Duke … and look where he is today. Thanks a lot N.C. State, you have etched in stone our losing seasons for the next 3 years.

After reading the article on the dangers of soda, I am much more inclined to drink good old fashioned milk when I feel like having a soda. It is milk that does the body good, and soda that does the body harm. There is no nutritional value in sodas and it is like adding empty sugar and calories to your system. At the dining hall, I always drink milk or orange juice as my preferred beverage (although I drink an average of two 12 oz. sodas per week, which I am thinking about stopping). It is critical to gets essential vitamins and minerals (such as calcium) into your system. Unfortunately, soda has neither calcium nor vitamin C. The mass abundance of soda products is a great contributor to the obesity epidemic and the rapid rise of diabetes in this country. It scares me how so many people order whopping 40 oz super size sodas at McDonald’s or other fast food restaurants and actually drink all that in one sitting. They are causing their body’s major long-term harm (such as the risk for coronary heart disease). Thanks, Technician, for the article on nutritional health. I look forward to more well written articles such as this one. The student population needs to know the danger of eating too much junk food and drinks.

I enjoyed Nimisha Jain’s article on technology and the positive difference it has made in our lives. As with anything else, technology can also be used for negative purposes such as cyber-porn, nuclear weapons or if we use it to the extent that we shun interactions with other live people. But I think the Internet has been the greatest innovation to our civilization. We can do research, listen to music, complete homework, talk to friends, surf the Web and send e-mail in one setting. The world is literally at our fingertips and we can use that to make a positive difference in theworld. Hopefully people will use the Internet and technology in general in positive ways to better the world, rather than for their own selfish purposes or to cause harm. It is humans that created technology, and we are the ones who will be held accountable for how it is used.

In response to Jason Eder’s column on senioritis, I would like to say that college is the only time in your life when you have a world of opportunities and fun. Life will definitely not get easier in the workforce or raising a family.Jason will be wishing a year after graduation that he didn’t complain and actually savored the last semester in college. Time is precious and you can never get it back (one will regret having complained about the best years of their life). Maybe the hard work of classes, exams and papers are not the most exciting part of college, but you will definitely remember the parties, your friends and campus events when you look back on your college years. And if you are really interested in your major and course of study, you will probably even enjoy your classes and exams.Senioritis in my view should only be reserved for high school students, because college students will wish and pray they were back in college a few months after graduation!

By continuously objecting to the administration’s moves in these impeachment proceedings (which I am sure I am not the only one who has grown tired of hearing about), Forrest Hinton, Tracy Hutcherson and consequently the entire Student Senate come across as whiny children saying “it’s not fair.”Have you all given up entirely on doing some actual work since elections are nearing? Are you just bored and wanting to play at impeachment because it sounds fun and important?Instead of concentrating your efforts on fighting for the impeachment, maybe you should try putting the focus on what Whil Piavis has done to deserve to be removed from office. If the administration understood your concerns, perhaps they would let you have your way and you could stop the bickering back and forth.Instead, it is time to recognize the authority of Tom Stafford and demonstrate your maturity by moving on. Grow up and show that you are capable of accomplishing something with your time on our Student Government – something other than providing quotes to the Technician and continually pursuing one petty, tired impeachment attempt — and maybe someday you will be leaders worthy of taking part in the federal government you are so fond of mimicking.
