BaseballState moves up a spot
After winning two of three games over the weekend against visiting No. 20 Wake Forest,N.C. State moved up one spot from No. 17 to No. 16 in the latest Baseball America top 25, which was released Monday. The Wolfpack (27-9, 10-5 ACC) are third in the ACC Atlantic Division behind Florida State and Clemson, and State also has the third-best conference record among all conference teams. Next up for the Pack is a game Wednesday at 7 p.m. at East Carolina.
Women’s BasketballPack hold awards banquet
The women’s basketball team wrapped up its 19-12 season by holding its awards banquet Sunday night at the McKimmon Center. Teammates voted junior forward Sasha Reaves the team’s most-improved player and junior guard Ashley Key the team’s top-defensive player.N.C. State finished 7-7 in the ACC and earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament before falling 71-61 to 12th-seeded Tulsa in the first round.
Professional BaseballDevine struggles again
After giving up three earned runs, two hits, one walk and a homerun in one-third of an inning on Friday against San Francisco, former N.C. State pitcher and current Atlanta Braves pitcher Joey Devine had another tough outing against the Giants on Saturday. The Braves pitcher allowed four earned runs, three hits and four walks in two-thirds of an inning. His ERA on the season is now 63.00.Devine left the Wolfpack after his junior year and was a first-round selection by the Braves last year. He was called up to the Braves on April 6 after posting a 2.25 ERA, 20 strikeouts, a win and a save for Richmond.
Professional Basketball Hodge released from hospital
After being shot while on Interstate 76 near Denver on Saturday, former N.C. State star and current Denver Nuggets player Julius Hodge was released from the hospital on Sunday. Hodge earned his Bachelor of Arts from State in May 2005 after leading the Wolfpack to the Sweet Sixteen in his senior season.
