Subaru invades BrickyardStudents will have the chance to see the new Subaru vehicles in the Brickyard Monday, as the company brings its latest line of Impreza vehicles. Subaru will be in the Brickyard to not only answer questions about the Impreza vehicles, but also to answer students’ concerns when it comes time to buying a car.”A lot of people don’t know what they’re looking for when they buy a car,” Sara Bryson, a junior in business management, said. “We want to show people what goes in to buying a car.”Bryson is part of a marketing project class that will be hosting the event. As part of the event, Subaru will bring one of its racing cars, which was part of the Rally America National Championship. The marketing group will have the Subaru vehicles in different settings, including a beach scene, a game day scene and a mountain scene.”Students will get to see firsthand what the vehicles have to offer in different scenes,” Will Shaw, a senior in business management, said.
Documentary screening enlightens about UgandaThe documentary film “Invisible Children” will show today at 7 p.m. in Witherspoon Student Cinema. The documentary captures the experiences of three young filmmakers as they learn of the plight of the children of Northern Uganda. The UN has declared the Ugandan situation a humanitarian crisis, and one of “10 stories the world should hear more about.” The showing is free and open to the public.
Immigrants and allies protest legislation in Siler CityA page in history will be written in North Carolina today when anywhere from 2,000 to 10,000 immigrants and their allies will march and rally in Siler City, N.C., about one hour west of Raleigh on Hwy. 64, and many more will gather in Winston-Salem, Wilmington, Murphy and other cities across the state. This is a national day of action against legislation regarding immigrants that is being considered by Congress, with hundreds of protests planned around the country. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a statewide gathering in front of Town Hall for music and speakers. In case of rain, the gathering will take place at Paul Braxton Gym on South Third Street near Capital Bank.
Biofuels Education Coalition introduces Oil + Water ProjectThe Biofuels education coalition (BEC), an umbrella organization created to promote the use of alternative energy, will host a conservation and biofuels benefit Tuesday, April 11 at Lincoln Theatre in downtown Raleigh.The Oil + Water Project demonstration will include a combination of visits to the Great Outdoor Provision Company in Cameron Village and an evening venue for an outside vehicle demonstration and movie screening of two new whitewater kayaking films.Doors open at 7 p.m. General admission is $8 and $6 with a valid student or military I.D.
First Year College to break groundFirst Year College, in partnership with University Housing, is preparing to break ground on a new building (FYC Commons) that will be placed in what is now the parking lot between Carmichael Gym and Student Health. The Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 25 at 9:00 a.m. at the site location and will be followed by a reception and comments from the Provost and administration.
