Robinson: Ford not contacted
Despite rumors that New York Knicks assistant coach and former North Carolina basketball player Phil Ford had been contacted about the N.C. State coaching position, former State basketball coach Les Robinson said Athletics Director Lee Fowler has not contacted Ford.
“I know Phil Ford has not been called by the A.D. [Fowler],” Robinson said. “It’s just not the case.”
Now that Texas coach Rick Barnes, Memphis coach John Calapari, former UCLA coach Steve Lavin and West Virgina coach John Beilein, who was rumored to have an offer, have all turned down the coaching position, the Wolfpack are still without a coach 27 days after the departure of former coach Herb Sendek.
However, Robinson said there are still top-notch candidates who have not been mentioned.
“There are two or three guys out there who are big-time candidates, and I haven’t seen their names reported anywhere,” Robinson said. “No, I won’t tell you who they are.”
