The second game of Saturday’s doubleheader was a high-scoring affair in which the Wolfpack won 7-5. Junior pitcher Shaina Ervin earned her 15th win of the season while Sims continued hot hitting with a 3-for-4 day and two RBI.
For the series finale Sunday, the Pack fell behind 5-0 early against the Cavaliers and it was unable to recover as it lost 5-2. Sims received the loss after giving up five runs and seven hits in six innings.
Track & FieldLucas takes first, Pope thirdJunior Julia Lucas, who took first place in the 5,000-meter in the ACC Championship last season, took first once again with a time of 16:03.07. Her time was the seventh fastest in the nation. She also placed third in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:21.87.
Junior Mitchell Pope took third in the shot put.
He said he wasn’t surprised with his finish, but he thinks he could have done better.
“I could have thrown better,” Pope said. “But I placed pretty much how I expected I would.”
Even though his throw of 60-1 was a season best, he knows that he could have thrown further.
“It was only my season best throw, not my career best. But I can’t really be disappointed because [FSU’s] Garrett Johnson, who placed first, is the national leader, and [UNC’s] Vikas Gowda, who placed second, is ranked high nationally as well,” Pope said. “Both of them are graduating this year. The only thing that really disappointed me was that I thought I could have thrown farther than I did.”
