Close to 20 people gathered at the Belltower Tuesday night to distribute flyers and show support for the search for missing engineering student Vitor Franchito. Franchito has been missing since Feb. 5.
Jose Franchito, Vitor’s father, arrived from Brazil Tuesday morning to help aid in the search.
“Vitor, please come back. We love you so much,” Jose said in an interview with ABC News. Jose and others believe Vitor left for time to himself.
According to Jose, Vitor has never done anything like this before. He is a good student and isn’t involved with drugs.
Flyers have been posted in major areas of Raleigh and will continue to be posted in hopes that someone will recognize his picture.
“We’re just here for support,” Heloisa Portela Myers said as she handed out piles of flyers.
The Brazilian community at N.C. State has shown the most support for the search.
“All of them are showing their support even by e-mail or telephone to his dad, and all of them are willing to help as much as they could,” Rodrigo Lourenco, a friend of Vitor, said.
“We don’t know too many Americans so I think the Americans [who] knew about the story, they helped a lot, all of them were giving some tips and some thoughts that may have happened,” he said. “But most of the people [who] are concerned are his friends, the people [who] are affected in the first place [by his disappearance].”
Franchito is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. To report information, contact Raleigh Police Detectives at (919) 890-3555.
