Clarification
In Wednesday’s Viewpoint column “LGBT? Fine by me” by Amy Denton quoted Bill Swallow, a statistics professor and author of the proposal for the center, saying “I have no idea where the notion that a LGBT center would be funded by student fees originated. There was never any mention in the proposal or in any of the discussion that led up to it that this would be the case.” This statement was unclear to some of our readers. According to Student Body President Will Quick, funding by student fees has not yet been ruled out because the proposal is in such an early stage.
Correction
In the Nov. 1 article “Body hair,” several statements were incorrectly altered in the editing process.
It was Vickie Records, a junior in history, who was quoted saying “It’s been like that throughout history … women putting birds on their heads in order to attract men. If society put less emphasis on what women should look like, like Victoria’s Secret models, it wouldn’t be so important. But i think women are insecure with themselves so they go to great lengths to change it, but it’s amazing — now men are doing the same thing,” not Crystal Archbell, a senior in business management.
It was Megan, a senior in English who requested her last name not be printed, that acknowledged that there is a double standard between women and men concerning body hair, not Archbell.
It was also Megan who said “I would shave my legs and armpits even if I didn’t have a boyfriend, because women are supposed to be soft. We’re not supposed to be like hairy men.
