Employment comments misleadingDrew Ball and Andrew Bates write, in their misrepresentation-stuffed guest column, “job cuts have continued to soar” under the Bush administration.
Yet at a mere 4.4 percent according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been in 6 years.
Let’s hear three cheers for the free market.

Reader appreciates the helpThank you for helping me decide to which persons my votes should go. With your awful ideas and atrocious grammar, I now have a far more worthwhile insight into my election decisions than I could have otherwise gathered on my own: I’ll be voting Democrat on Tuesday.

Bad move, marinesWe would just like to say how disappointed we are with our campus ROTC Marines. The College Republicans and College Democrats spent a substantial amount of time and money painting the Free Expresion Tunnel Monday night for the election on Tuesday. The election only lasts 13 hours, and there could have been no doubt in ROTC’s mind that our work served as an important reminder to our student body about what Tuesday was.
Furthermore, the ROTC Marines painted the entire Free Expression Tunnel (including over the POW and MIA work). While we spent upwards of four hours working to inform our student body, not only did they cover our work, but their product lacked class.
We understand that Veterans Day is on Friday (our organizations are also planning events), but Election Day was yesterday; and painting over our work is unprofessional, disrespectful and rude. Buying paint becomes very expensive and it is money we could have spent on campaigns, fliers and food for our members whose work has been done in vain.
As the Marines are a body that protects our democracy, we expect them to value the importance of participation in it. Their painting could have waited until Tuesday evening, and there is nothing to call their actions but lame.

Body hair article inappropriateI just wanted to say that I have a real problem with the article written Nov. 1 on body hair [“Body hair: would you like a razor with that?” by Kelly Helder], for the sex series. Frankly, the article annoyed me. The comments made about women were incredibly crude and sadly disrespectful. There was nothing informative about this article; it consisted largely of tasteless and unnecessary quotes. “I shave my balls because girls don’t want hairy balls in their mouths,” is seriously just crass.
This is a school newspaper, not Hustler magazine. If I don’t want to read this kind of material, I shouldn’t have to worry about finding it in my school newspaper. Writing of this type is not appropriate for a paper that is read by such a large number of people. The editor should be fired for allowing it to go to press.
The straw that broke this camel’s back was the quote that referred to women as “products.” Take the following quote — “One of the parts of dating is testing the product …” Referring to women as products to be tested is offensive. There was no need to include it.
The previous installments of the sex series were semi-informative and/or analytical. This one, because of its sexist and denigrating tone, was just immature and sadly lacking in professionalism. Frankly, I am disappointed and embarrassed by my campus newspaper.
