15 teams made the finals to attempt to cross the desert from Barstow, California to Primm, Nevada.

A $1 million prize was offered to the team that completed the course.

No team completed the course and the prize went unclaimed.

2005

23 teams made the finals to attempt the desert once again, but this time in the Southwest.

A $2 million prize was offered to the team that completed the course.

Five teams made it the 131.2 miles.

Stanford won with a time of 6 hours 54 minutes.

Insight Racing made it 26 miles.
