Medical examiners determined in the preliminary autopsy report of Daniel Whitley, whose roommate found him dead in Tucker Residence Hall Sunday afternoon, that Whitley died of natural causes.
The exact cause of death, however, is pending on toxicology results which may take several weeks.
“We did get the preliminary autopsy report, which… concurred with all our investigations that it was natural causes,” Sgt. Jon Barnwell of Campus Police said. “The standard autopsy showed nothing out of the ordinary.”
Whitley did have some health issues, according to Barnwell, who wouldn’t elaborate on the issues.
“There was nothing suspicious, and the autopsy confirmed that,” Barnwell said.
Whitley, an 18-year-old freshman in First Year College, was from Albemarle, N.C.
