Glenn Moraven, a junior in communication and sport management, announced following last night’s debate that he will be dropping out of the race for student body president.
The former football player said he believed he was a front-runner for the position, but cited “pressure from the administration” as his reason for dropping out.
According to Moraven, he found out during spring break that he needed to talk to Evelyn Reiman, an associate vice chancellor for student affairs, about his eligibility status. Moraven said Reiman told him that there was a GPA problem.
But Moraven said he talked to his adviser, Sandra Stallings, who voiced her support for Moraven.
“She said she believed I could do it, and she talked on the phone with Ms. Reiman while I was there,” Moraven said.
But he said the administration’s pressure was too much, so he decided to step down and endorse candidate Adam Compton.
“I’ll be back next year as a voice of the student body and work in Student Government this year and see how things are run,” Moraven said.
Moraven, who said he will meet with Reiman next week, said he believes he would have won.
“I know I would have won, but I’m not as prepared yet,” Moraven said. “I can help bring the students’s voice, whoever the president is.”
