Imagine walking into Carter-Finley Stadium on Saturday to see the game against UNC and the first thing you notice is a sea of red on all sides of the stadium. This is the vision of a growing number of students and other fans who are calling for Saturday’s game to be a complete Red Out.
Jonathan Sturgis created a Facebook event called “RED OUT on Saturday vs. UNC” and started inviting his friends to encourage them to wear nothing but red shirts to Saturday’s game. The event grew quickly.
He said he got the idea from Penn State University’s traditional “White Out” where all their fans wear white during big games. The all white atmosphere of the “White Out” not only energizes students and fans, but also provides a psychological boost to their team. With our biggest rival coming to town, there’s not a better time for everyone to break out their red shirts to have a Red Out inside the confines of Carter-Finley Stadium. Having a Red Out during the UNC game is a great way to build on this Tobacco Road rivalry, and instill another tradition into the heated game.
As coach Tom O’Brien said at Thursday night’s Ram Roast, “We need you to be the 12th man on Saturday,” and having fans united in solid red will show our players that we are behind them and ready to be the 12th man on the field. The atmosphere during the Red Out must be powerful and energetic –all Wolfpack fans must show their spirit by donning red.
Coming to the game in a pink, green, gray, black or white N.C. State shirt is unacceptable for the Red Out environment. If you feel the need to dress up during the game wear a button down red shirt or red dress to the game — the important thing is that you are wearing red.
If this years Red Out is a success, maybe in the future the University or Wolfpack Sports Marketing will hand out red shirts if they see students and other fans step up to the plate this year.
It’s time to protect our house and snap our three game losing streak against UNC. It starts with a sea of red throughout Carter-Finley.
Walking into the game Saturday you don’t want to be wearing any other color than red — because if you don’t you’ll stick out as if you were wearing Carolina Blue.
