Ward joins baseball staff
Former second baseman Brian Ward will join the baseball team’s coaching staff as a volunteer this spring.
With associate head coach Tom Holliday claiming the position of pitching coach, replacing the departed Chris Roberts, Ward will assist Chris Hart in coaching the hitters and infielders, as well as serving as the base-running coach.
Ward transferred to N.C. State in 1998 after two years at Brevard Community College, where he earned the FCCAA conference player of the year honors two consecutive years.
In his first year as a member of the Wolfpack, Ward earned second-team All-ACC honors and set school records with 31 doubles and 105 hits. After his senior season at State, Ward held the Wolfpack record for career batting average, batting .380.
Ward was drafted by the San Diego Padres and spent time in both the Padres and Minnesota Twins minor league organizations.
