Viewpoint writers lack creativity
I’m tired of all of you [Viewpoint writers] taking out your lack of creativity on the student body here at NCSU. In Patrick Ewing’s article on Oct. 15, he included a line suggesting that some women are only here to “possibly obtain [their] MRS degree.” I’m very open minded but this stopped me dead in my tracks. Patrick, your accusation was sexist and unnecessary, and since you failed to mention any specific names I’m left to assume that you were speaking of all women here at NCSU.
This isn’t a first offense for the Viewpoint in my three years at State either. Quite Frankly, I’m sick of the writers using their columns as platforms to slander specific groups of people on campus. I understand it is the Viewpoint section therefore all of your articles are going to express your individual opinions to an extent, but you can write interesting, well-researched articles that appeal to the student body without insulting the majority of those who read them. Making ridiculous little jabs or using stereotypes to get through to your readers only ends up hurting you; It takes away from the quality of your article and gives you less credibility as a writer overall. If you want your thoughts and ideas to appeal to adults then start writing like ones.
