Andre Brown ran for 179 yards and a touchdown to lead N.C. State past then-no. 9 Florida State. Wolfpack quarterback Marcus Stone competed 8-of-17 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown to Anthony Hill.
2. Florida State 50, N.C. State 44, 2OT; Nov. 15, 2003
Senior quarterback Philip Rivers ran for a touchdown and completed 28-of-38 passes for 422 yards and four touchdowns, but FSU running back Leon Washington’s 12-yard touchdown run in overtime helped the Seminoles snap a two-game losing skid against the Wolfpack. State forced overtime when Derek Morris blocked a potential game-winning field goal for FSU as time expired.
Last time N.C. State played…Florida State
Daniel Evans, in only his second game as the starting quarterback, threw three touchdown passes in a 24-20 victory, following up a dramatic 17-15 win against Boston College. Although State upped its record to 2-0 in conference play and appeared to have the season turned around as it was 3-2 overall, it went on to lose its next seven games.
Senior linebacker Ernest Jones on:
Who should win the Heisman this season.
“The Heisman? I think that should definitely go to my man Darrell Blackman. If I had to pick somebody outside of my team, then I think they should have some sort of a new rule installed. They should give it to both the backs from Clemson, both James Davis and C.J. Spiller.”

Where State Stands
If N.C. State plans to contend for the ACC title this season, every game is now a must-win for the Wolfpack. State is one of three teams that are 0-2 in the ACC and one of five teams winless in conference play. With Boston College out to a 3-0 head-start, the Pack cannot afford to lose many more games — if any — if it has any hopes of catching the Eagles for first in the division.
On the road to Jacksonville
Virginia and Boston College remain the frontrunners for the ACC title game at this point in the season, with each team posting a 3-0 record. Florida State is one of the five teams winless in ACC play, but at 0-1, the Seminoles can jump to .500 with a win over the Wolfpack. Clemson remains in striking distance in the Atlantic division with a 2-1 record. Miami and Virginia Tech are each in the running in the Coastal division with 1-0 records.
