During the Thanksgiving break, the women’s basketball team will make its second trip away from Reynolds Coliseum this season and travel out West for two games.
N.C. State (3-1) will play Arizona on Friday at 10 p.m. EST in Tucson, Ariz., and two days later the Wolfpack will be in Santa Barbara, Calif., to play UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at 5 p.m EST.
“We’re flying on Thanksgiving Day,” coach Kay Yow said. “So we will get there in time to have Thanksgiving dinner — we won’t miss our Thanksgiving dinner.”
She said the team already had to play Santa Barbara this year. Because it had to play that game, the team decided it would be good to get a game with Arizona as well.
“This year we owe Santa Barbara,” Yow said. “So we had to go out and play them — so we picked up a game with Arizona, who will return to us next year. Any way you look at it, we’re going to be on the road during Thanksgiving.”
In State’s only other road game this season, when it played at Purdue on Nov. 15, the Pack lost to the Boilermakers 68-38. For the game, State only shot 22 percent from the field.
While Purdue is the only ranked team State has played, in its other three games — all at home — the Pack is undefeated.
In the season opener and first round of the Preseason WNIT, State defeated High Point 78-48. Two days later, it defeated Iona 59-34 in the lowest total point output in a women’s basketball game at Reynolds Coliseum. After its loss to Purdue, the team then bounced back and defeated UNC-Wilmington 63-48 on Friday.
The road trip will be the team’s final one before Christmas. On Dec. 28 it will play Nebraska in Gainesville, Fla., in the State Farm Classic. From Nov. 29 – Dec. 22, the team will play six straight home games, including one against South Carolina and one against East Carolina.
