Sidney Rochell Lowe II, the son of men’s basketball coach Sidney Lowe, was arrested Tuesday in connection with two armed robberies, according to the Greensboro and UNC-Greensboro police.
Lowe, 22, is a student at North Carolina A&T. He turned himself in to UNC-G police after the UNC-G and Greensboro police departments issued a warrant for his arrest on March 26, according to a release from the UNC-G police department.
The armed robbery on March 24 resulted in the shooting of Stephen Cobb, a freshman at UNC-G, according to The Carolinian, UNC-G’s student newspaper.
James Herring, the assistant chief of UNC-G police, declined a phone interview, but said in the release that aside from the shooting and attempted robbery charge, Lowe had seven additional warrants upon further investigation.
The other seven charges included the felony aiding and abetting attempted armed robbery, possession of a weapon on education property on both UNC-G and N.C. A&T’s campus, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the keeping and selling of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and three counts of possession of stolen goods or property.
According to The Carolinian, Cobb “was in his dorm room when he was shot once in the lower back with a .25 automatic pistol.” He was shot in Weil Residence Hall.
UNC-G police arrested Brian Patrick Martin, 19, the same night at 7 p.m., the newspaper said. He was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon on school grounds and discharge of a weapon on school grounds.
The other armed robbery, which took place March 16, was a home invasion. Lowe has an additional 13 charges from that incident – including six counts of kidnapping, six counts of armed robbery and one count of felony assault.
“During the home invasion, cellular phones, cash, laptop computers and other property were taken. The suspects were armed with an assault rifle,” the release from the Greensboro Police said.
Lowe is the oldest of the coach’s three children.
