Following a weekend of moving in, Wolfpack Welcome Week provides a variety of events to usher in the new school year. Monday included activities ranging from multicultural symposiums to information sessions for second-year students. Da Chen, the best-selling author of this year’s summer reading, Colors of the Mountain, also spoke to students during the Convocation Festival at the RBC Center Monday night.
“The welcoming convocation is probably one the biggest signature events for Wolfpack Welcome Week,” Deb Luckadoo, director of activities at Talley Student Center, said.Witherspoon Student Center hosted the Academic Success Workshop Tuesday, where students entered into a drawing for a $150-bookstore scholarship.
Assorted activities also took place throughout the day to acquaint freshmen with their specific colleges as well as open houses for student organizations such as Student Media and Student Government. The commencement of classes today will not put an end to the festivities. The Inter-Residence Council and Inter-Fraternity Council will hold a “Grillin’ and Chillin'” cookout Wednesday night on Owen Beach.
The Black Students Board will sponsor a Back to School Jam Thursday on Harris Field.
The Union Activities Board’s Friday Fest will cap off Welcome Week with live music from Cartel, Weatherbox and others. The event is free of charge for students and will occur regardless of weather on Lee Field.
“I’m looking forward to Friday the most,” Lauren Miller, a freshman in aerospace engineering, said. “It seems like an awesome chance to meet new people, plus I love Cartel.”
Prior to the concert, volunteers will be needed to set up for Saturday’s Stop Hunger Now program, sponsored by CSLEPS, which will bag meals for the hungry.
