FOOTBALL2007 football schedule set
On Wednesday, N.C. State released its football schedule for the 2007 season. The team will visit first-year coach Tom O’Brien’s previous team — Boston College — the second week of the season. The schedule also includes games against Division I-AA school Wofford and Orange Bowl champion Louisville of the Big East. The Louisville game may be played on Sept. 27, while it is now scheduled for Sept. 29, but the final determination on a day for the game should be decided by the ACC in the next week. State will take on in-state rival East Carolina on Oct. 20 in the Pirates’ Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville. The Pirates defeated the Pack 21-16 in the final game of the 2006 season on Nov. 25. State will also visit Miami and Florida State. It will be the Pack’s first game at Miami since the Hurricanes joined the ACC in 2004.

GYMNASTICSPack duo receive weekly honors
The East Atlantic Gymnastics League recognized two N.C. State gymnasts in its weekly honors, naming junior Leigha Hancock EAGL specialist of the week and freshman Taylor Seaman EAGL rookie of the week. The two received recognition due to their individual performances in the home opener this past Saturday against Georgia, Ohio State and Iowa, in which the women took second place as a team.Hancock placed second in the vault competition Saturday as she tied her best personal score at 9.90, the highest among any Wolfpack member. Hancock also scored a 9.80 on the beam and a 9.70 on the floor exercise. Being recognized by the EAGL is nothing new for Hancock as she was last year’s rookie of the year, winning the specialist of the week honor four times last season.Seaman took third place on the bars with a score of 9.825, the highest among State gymnasts. She also produced a score of 9.875 in the vault exercise and a 9.85 on the floor exercise, both second best among Pack teammates. The team will travel north this weekend, first to Piscataway, N.J., to face Rutgers Friday, then to University Park, Pa., for a showdown against Penn State Saturday at 7 p.m.
