It’s a new year, a new semester and a fresh start for everyone on campus. It’s a time to take a deep breath, gather your bearings and make some changes – improvements.
The Technician, as a student publication, acknowledges areas in which improvement should be made.
We are making a conscious effort to improve our newspaper – to provide students and University patrons with a quality resource of news, entertainment and information every day.
First and foremost, this semester we are going to make every effort to consider our audience’s maturity and intelligence (i.e., the removal of hair on certain body parts) in every piece of content we publish. Although corny, the phrase “no stone left unturned” will ring true.
Tact and appropriateness are now focal points for our staff.
We also want to bring our readership more hard-hitting, relevant news and commentary to equip it with the information necessary to fight for what it wants at this University.
The Technician pledges to challenge the University, whether in athletics, the administration or faculty, and to demand answers to questions that every student has the right to know.
Our credibility is another area of emphasis – we are striving for quality through accuracy in our content.
In doing this, we are adding a new feature to the paper, located on Page 2, to provide brief, yet intriguing, pertinent information that is easily accessible and informative.
We will even provide a history lesson every day.
We encourage our readers to come to us first for news about N.C. State, whether you pick up a paper in print or visit our Web site – technicianonline.com.
This is a newspaper for the students, by the students, which means we want all of you to take part in what goes into our publication.
Write letters to the editor, express your opinion via the Viewpoint section and provide us with constructive criticism so we know how to serve you best.
Moreover, come work for us.
If you think you can do it better or can improve our product – we need you, we want you, and we will do our best to find you a place on our staff – applications are in office on the third floor of the Witherspoon Student Center.
We want you to know we are ready and willing to listen and make changes for the better.
So be cognizant and expressive of what you want in a student newspaper this coming semester, and if you are inclined, be a part of the resolution.
