Student Senate passes critical new proposals
Eiman KhalilStaff Writer
The Student Senate met Wednesday and passed several proposals which are of crucial interest to students. The most crucial bill passed was to continue the vandalism deterrent program. This program, previously in the hands of the student-body treasurer, has now been given to the Inter-Residence Council which will assume the duty of issuing all checks remaining in the office of the student-body treasurer.”I feel it is an effective program. In it, awards have been handed out for reports of vandalism leading to the arrest in the reported act,” Student Senate President Jim Yocum said. “IRC had little to do with the program…Now IRC should maintain the program.”

N.C. State junior Amelia Mallner knew that the men’s basketball team would beat Carolina during their matchup Wednesday night. But that fact alone was not what drew her out to Reynolds Coliseum, clad in red and ready to cheer.”This is just very exciting,” said Mallner, who attended the fifth annual Big Event for the first time. “It feels like I’m at any other game.” And with the cheerleaders, the pep band and the mascots, the Big Event was like any other game. The only thing missing was the players. The Advocating Choices Through Increased Options Now (ACTION) Committee hosted its fifth consecutive Big Event on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Reynolds Coliseum. The event gave students, faculty and staff who otherwise could not go to Chapel Hill to cheer for the Wolfpack the opportunity to watch the game on a big-screen television and cheer for the team from a distance.
