It was the renowned reputation of N.C. State’s nuclear engineering department that brought Miguel Marquez to Raleigh on Jan. 19. An engineering student from Notre Dame, Marquez was interested in witnessing the program that he had heard so much about for himself. And he was not alone.Faculty and students from across the country and the world came to NCSU Saturday to visit the nuclear engineering open house. The open house served as an opportunity to gain insight into the program and research opportunities within the department for prospective graduate students.

The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service a $22,000 grant to jumpstart its Asthma Intervention and Referral Education Program.The program was developed to raise awareness for the fight against asthma, the No. 1 children’s environmental health issue in the world. Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that affects 15 million Americans, 5 million of whom are children.
