Behind The VeilTalley Student Center, Walnut Room, 6 – 7 p.m.
Participants in this experiment will wear a hijab, or head scarf, all day to find out how women who choose to wear the scarf are treated. The program will allow participants to share their experiences from the day and will feature a panel of speakers.

Pack-A-Thon’s 24-Hour Dance MarathonCarmichael Gymnasium, 7 p.m. – 7 p.m.
A 24-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping marathon where students, faculty members and Raleigh citizens stay on their feet to show their support for the children and families of the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. All proceeds from the event go to the N.C. Children’s Hospital.

The Evolution of Useful Things with Henry PetroskiEngineering Building II, Centennial Campus, 5:30-6:30 P.M.
Author and Duke professor Henry Petroski will offer his insights on the history of engineering and technology. Petroski has written 12 books and is frequently heard on television and radio. His upcoming book will look at the technical and cultural history of the toothpick.

Comedian Debbie Wooten Witherspoon Student Center, 9 – 10:30 p.m.
Debbie Wooten, a motivational speaker who uses comedy to help overcome adversity, will perform. Wooten was born with spina bifida and contracted polio at five months. Her story will touch on aspects of poverty, racism, abuse and family suicide in Wooten’s life.
