After a dismal offensive performance in its season opener, N.C. State opened the floodgates on Murray State, scoring points on every one of its first ten drives en route to a 65-7 victory.
The Pack started the game scoring twice in the opening five minutes after forcing and recovering two fumbles. Redshirt sophomore Russell Wilson connected for a 27-yard touchdown strike to redshirt junior Jarvis Williams followed by a 19-yard pass to junior Owen Spencer.
State continued to dominate throughout the first half with freshman James Washington scoring his first career touchdown and redshirt senior Toney Baker scoring for the first time in 1,022 days.
The Wolfpack defense was lights out, holding Murray State to -2 yards of total offense in the first half and limiting the Racers to only 4 first downs the entire game. The Pack was led defensively by Willie Young with two sacks.
The first, second and third teams were all able to gain some valuable playing experience. Redshirt freshman Mike Glennon finished 6-7 with 65 yards and orchestrated multiple N.C. State scoring drives.
The Wolfpack finished the game with 484 yards of total offense compared to Murray State’s 36.
The event was pegged as Military Appreciation Day and State tallied the most points since 2001 and the most under any O’Brien coached team. Also notably, Russell Wilson is now second all-time in NCAA history in consecutive passes without an interception.
State will be back in action at home next week as it takes on Garnder-Webb at 6 p.m.
