The men’s basketball team moves to 7-1 on the season after taking out Georgia Southern, 75-57, after a second half surge at Reynolds Coliseum.
The first half for State was lackluster after the team committed eight turnovers and went into halftime with a 31-20 lead, a far closer margin than expected.
Lowe expressed his frustration at halftime. The Wolfpack came out in the second half and amassed a 20-point lead with 17 minutes left in the game. But when the Eagles cut the lead down to nine with 12 minutes remaining, coach Sidney Lowe decided to call a critical time out to talk to his team.
The timeout worked in the Pack’s favor as the team got a number of great plays from freshman forward Josh Davis, who ended the afternoon with 10 points in 15 minutes. State scored 50 points in the paint and 19 fast break points.
The Pack was without junior guard Javier Gonzales, who was out with a hamstring injury he sustained in the game against Marquette last Saturday. Lowe said the injury is day-to-day and hopes it is not a similar injury to the one that plagued former point guard Engin Atsur in 2007, Lowe’s first year as State’s head coach.
