With the NFL season almost half over, three former NC State quarterbacks still hold the reins as starters. The Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson made a statement in this week’s game as he tries to lead his team back to the playoffs for its sixth-straight season.
Russell Wilson, Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks
In a back-and-forth matchup with the Houston Texans, Wilson led the Seahawks to a home victory with a touchdown pass with 21 seconds left in the game to win 41-38. Wilson shined individually with 452 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He also led the team in rushing yards with 30. The Seahawks improved to 5-2 and are currently tied for the NFC West division lead.
Jacoby Brissett, Quarterback, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts lost in a heartbreaker to the Cincinnati Bengals 24-23, even with the team leading almost every statistical category. Brissett completed nearly 65 percent of his passes for 233 yards, two touchdowns and one pick in the loss. His one interception was costly as it was returned for a touchdown and proved to be the difference maker for the Bengals.
Philip Rivers, Quarterback, Los Angeles Chargers
In a matchup against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Chargers had their three-game win streak snapped as they lost 21-13 to the New England Patriots. Rivers is now 0-7 in his career against fellow All-Pro quarterback Tom Brady, as he threw for 212 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Stephen Hauschka, Kicker, Buffalo Bills
In a 34-14 win over the Oakland Raiders, Hauschka made both of his field goal tries and was 4-4 on extra points. The 5-2 Bills have been relying heavily on Hauschka this season, as he has only missed two kicks all season and has drilled five field goals from beyond 50 yards.
Matthew Dayes, Running Back, Cleveland Browns
With the Browns main kickoff returner out with injury, rookie Matthew Dayes got opportunities to show off his speed in a 33-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London, England. He returned three kicks for 105 total yards including a 71-yard return. He also caught one pass for 15 yards in the loss.
