The NCAA has denied NC State’s appeal for immediate eligibility for men’s basketball freshman guard Braxton Beverly, according to a release from NC State Athletics Monday morning.
Beverly originally committed to play at Ohio State, but transferred to NC State after Buckeyes head coach Thad Matta was fired in June. After taking summer courses at Ohio State, Beverly was ruled ineligible to play for the Wolfpack this season on Oct. 13 when the NCAA denied his original request for immediate eligibility.
NC State formally appealed the decision from the NCAA on Oct. 23. Head coach Kevin Keatts expressed his dissatisfaction with the NCAA’s decision.
“Disappointed would be an understatement for how I feel for Braxton, he’s devastated,” Keatts told NC State Athletics. “This is a situation where adults failed a young man and he’s the one paying the price.”
Beverly will be allowed to practice with the Wolfpack during the 2017-18 season, and will have four years of eligibility remaining starting next year.
