The NC State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Cross Invitational in South Bend, Indiana Friday.
The Women finished third overall with 118 points, while the men took ninth with a tally of 208 points.
Coming off of second and first place finishes at last week’s Wolfpack Invitational, both the men’s and women’s teams looked to test their early season form at this historically high-caliber meet.
On the Women’s side, this year’s competition consisted of No.1 Colorado, No. 3 New Mexico, No. 9 Arkansas and No. 12 Notre Dame.
On the men’s side, No. 4 Colorado, No. 11 Washington State and No. 13 Southern Utah were all present at the starting line.
In the women’s race, the top finisher for the Pack was Sophomore Elly Henes who took 13th, covering the 5k course in a personal-best time of 16:42.90.
Following Henes was the trio of senior Rachel Koon, freshman Dominique Clairmonte and sophomore Beth Taye. Koon, Clairmonte and Taye took 16th, 19th and 23rd, respectively, finishing with swift times of 16:47.20, 16:48.30 and 16:50.00.
For Taye, this finish marked a 10-second improvement to her personal record at the 5k distance.
Freshman Julia Zachgo rounded out scoring for the Wolfpack with a 47th place finish and time of 17:17.80.
In the men’s race, the top finisher was junior Elijah Moskowitz. The Amherst, New Hampshire native finished 26th and covered the 5-mile course in a personal-best time of 24:18.00.
Following Moskowitz was the duo of redshirt sophomore Ben Barrett and junior Philip Hall. The pair finished 34th and 40th respectively, turning in speedy times of 24:26.60 and 24:28.90.
Redshirt freshman Joe Bistritz and redshirt senior Aubrey Myjer rounded out scoring for the Pack, finishing 52nd and 57th.
