Chubb, Samuels on preseason award watch lists
NC State football senior defensive end Bradley Chubb has been namedto the preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, and senior H-back Jaylen Samuels is on the list for the Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.
The Maxwell Award goes to America’s College Player of the year. Samuels, who has led the Pack in receptions in each of the last two seasons, ranks sixth in NC State history with 31 career touchdowns (15 receiving, 16 rushing). Athlon Sports named him a preseason All-American as an all-purpose player.
The Bednarik Award is given annually to the Defensive Player of the Year in college football. Chubb is 10th in Wolfpack history with 16 career sacks and 12th with 34 tackles for loss. He led the FBS in the regular season last year with 22 tackles for loss.

Spencer signs in Poland
Former NC State women’s basketball guard Miah Spencer has signed with AZS AJP Gorzow in Poland, which will compete in the European Cup in 2017-18. Spencer averaged 12.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game as a senior, leading the Pack to the second round of the NCAA tournament, where she put up a career-high 31 points in a loss to Texas.
Spencer is first in NC State women’s basketball history with 428 made free throws, and she is the only player in program history to finish with over 1,500 points and 400 assists. Spencer will head to Poland Sept. 1 to start her professional career.

Konig makes team Canada
Sophomore NC State women’s basketball guard Aislinn Konig was selected to the U19 Canada Women’s National Team on Friday. The international squad will play at the 2017 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Italy on July 22.
The Surrey, British Columbia, native appeared in 19 games for the Pack last season, recording 7.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. The sharpshooter was named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 19 after exploding for 40 points, shooting 10-14 from long range in two games against NC Central and Tulane. Konig shot an impressive clip of 35.7 percent from three in her first season with the Pack. Prior to arriving at NC State Konig was rated a five-star player, the No. 38 overall prospect and No. 9 guard respectively.
