In what has been a busy offseason for the NC State men’s basketball team, head coach Kevin Keatts added another piece to his roster Friday. Guard Braxton Beverly of Hargrave Military Academy has signed a financial aid agreement and will join the Pack for the 2017-18 season, Keatts announced Friday.
“I am excited to have Braxton join our program,” Keatts said in the team’s official release. “Braxton can really stretch the floor with his shooting ability and is tremendous coming off ball screens. He’s been at one of the premier prep schools in the country for the last two years, and will be an asset both on and off the floor for us here at NC State.”
Beverly was a captain for both seasons he was at Hargrave, and the Tigers went 90-3 across those seasons. Hargrave went 47-1 in his first season, in which he averaged 20.1 points, 6.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game, and the team won the Prep National Championship. Last year, the Tigers went 43-2 and made it to the Prep Final Four. Beverly holds the Hargrave post-graduate, single-game scoring record with 70 points in a 131-86 win against Genesis Academy Feb. 12, 2016.
Beverly adds to a large rotation of guards Keatts will have at his disposal this season, joining redshirt junior Torin Dorn, freshman Lavar Batts, sophomore Markell Johnson, and graduates Allerik Freeman and Sam Hunt.
