Thank you for sharing your experience with our campus community. The Counseling Center knows it cannot thrive without feedback from our students.
Colleges and universities do have a long way to go in regard to eating disorder treatment and awareness. At NC State we take mental health and disordered eating concerns seriously and are continually working to improve upon our services.
This past summer the Counseling Center implemented a full-time eating disorder coordinator position. One of the coordinator’s primary responsibilities is chairing the Eating Disorder Treatment Team. We know that students with eating disorders respond best to a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. Our team is comprised of psychiatrists, therapists, dieticians and medical providers dedicated to the care of these students. Additionally, the Counseling Center is pleased to facilitate the “Eating Disorder Recovery” group for the second year in a row.
We also understand the necessity of eating disorder awareness. This year we are excited for outreach events aimed at body positivity and disordered eating concerns. The Counseling Center is already preparing for two events scheduled this fall.
On Sept. 27, NC State is proud to host “Fresh Check Day,” an event dedicated to raising mental health awareness across college and university campuses. The Counseling Center is partnering with Student Health to sponsor the “YOUnique” booth. We are looking forward to hosting this interactive station to promote body positivity and eating disorder awareness.
On Oct. 17, the Counseling Center is delighted to support “Southern Smash,” a campus-wide event sponsored by Student Health and Veritas Collaborative, an eating disorder treatment center, to raise eating disorder awareness and celebrate self-acceptance.
Our center is always looking for opportunities to talk with students and has responded to multiple requests specific to eating disorder and body image awareness from student groups and leaders, including Fraternity and Sorority Life organizations and University Housing.

Thank you again for sharing your inspiring story and being an advocate for mental health!
Sincerely,
