NC State University Police Chief Jack Moorman gave an update on Tuesday for the investigation into three reported sexual assaults occurring at a party in Wolf Village apartments.
“We know these investigations are long, they’re very difficult investigations,” Moorman said. “We feel comfortable that we’re at a point where we can release some information.”
Officers from University Police have spent approximately 800 hours working on the investigation, interviewing individuals involved, reviewing video from campus security cameras and collecting evidence. As the criminal investigation is nearly concluded, according to a press release from the university, administrators at the university are conducting a Title IX investigation to look into violations of the Code of Student Conduct.
Two football players were dismissed and three others suspended as part of the investigation, as reported by Technician, and could face charges due to related to underage drinking and drugs, but Moorman did not say that they are the targets of the ongoing sexual assault investigation.
According to the information released by NC State Police, Athletics took disciplinary action regarding the five players involved for violation of the Student Athlete Code of conduct and football team rules. The disciplinary action is currently pending the results of the criminal and Title IX investigations.
Per the university, evidence has been turned over to the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, however Moorman didn’t comment on the nature of the ongoing criminal investigation.
“The criminal investigation is something we’re not prepared to talk about at this time,” Moorman said.
In a statement released by Chancellor Randy Woodson, he praised the support of University Police, the Wake County District Attorney’s office and Athletics during the investigation.
“Throughout this very difficult situation, NC State has remained dedicated to completing thorough criminal and Title IX investigations, while providing due process and needed support to those involved,” Woodson said. “As these investigations continue, I appreciate the hard work of our University Police, strong support from the District Attorney’s office and the responsiveness of Athletics’ leadership based on information provided to this point.”
