Men’s Soccer defeats No. 24 UConn 4-1 in Exhibition Match
While it’s only an exhibition matchup, head coach George Kiefer’s Wolfpack looked strong in a match against No. 24 UConn, defeating the Huskies, 4-1, in commanding fashion. NC State found itself down 1-0 at the midway point, but came back as strong as ever in the second half.
The Wolfpack outshot the Huskies in the second half eight to three, with four shots finding the back of the net. Junior forward Tanner Roberts struck first with a header (69’), and followed with another (80’) to give the Pack a 2-1 lead. Freshman forward David Loera (86’) and junior defender Christoph Schneuwly (90’) went on to seal the win. Freshman goalkeeper Leon Krapf also impressed, notching four saves in the match.

Women’s soccer wins season opener over Oregon
The NC State women’s soccer team got its 2017 campaign started off with a strong 4-1 road victory over Oregon. Sophomore Paige Griffiths got the scoring started off in the seventh minute of the game, and the Pack took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to a goal from sophomore Krissi Schuster in the 26th minute.
Sophomore Kia Rankin and junior Maxine Blackwood tallied goals in the second half to solidify the 4-1 win. It was the first official game for the Wolfpack following its incredible 11-9-2 season in 2016 that saw the team reach the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

Chubb and Samuels named to SI’s Preseason All-America Team
NC State senior defensive end Bradley Chubb and senior all-purpose back Jaylen Samuels have been named to Sports Illustrated’s All-America team, with Samuels landing on the first team as an all-purpose back, and Chubb on the second team’s defensive line.
Samuels led the Pack in receptions last year with 55 catches and was also the third-leading rusher. His 31 touchdowns (15 receiving, 16 rushing) rank put him sixth in school history. Chubb was fourth in the FBS in tackles for loss last year with 22, giving him the second-best total in school history behind No. 1 NFL draft pick Mario Williams.
