Forbes included Raleigh as one of its “12 Top Destinations of 2017,” alongside locations such as Lisbon, Bali and Oahu.
Released Monday, Forbes cites Raleigh’s culinary scene as the top reason to visit the City of Oaks. The article recommends local restaurants, including the Herons restaurant at The Umstead Hotel and Spa, Crawford & Son and Morgan Street Food Hall and Market.
“It’s a very nice accolade and a great list to be on, reinforcing Raleigh as a top-tier travel destination in the minds of visitors and also building community pride amongst residents who live, work and play here,” said Visit Raleigh spokesman Scott Peacock, according to The News & Observer.
Raleigh was one of six U.S. cities to make the list, including Washington, D.C., Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, California.
Forbes chooses its destinations by sending incognito inspectors to hotels and restaurants across the world for review.
“As new places around town start to find their culinary groove, Raleigh-area standards are keeping their kitchens cooking with a commitment to fresh ingredients and a calendar stuffed with epicurean fun,” Forbes stated.
