NC State men’s basketball sophomore point guard Markell Johnson’s suspension for a violation of the student-athlete code of conduct is related to a charge of felonious assault after an incident Oct. 8 in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, as first reported by The News & Observer.
Documents from the Cuyahoga County court docket show that Johnson, Demarious Green, Michael Melton and Johnnie Pullum were indicted Dec. 5. On Dec. 20, they were jailed and told they needed to provide a DNA sample and $5,000 bond. The pretrial hearing was set for Dec. 28 at 9 a.m.
However, per Pack Pride, the bailiff for Judge Maureen Clancy confirmed there will be another pretrial conference for Johnson on Jan. 8.
On Dec. 16 prior to the Wolfpack’s game against UNC-Greensboro at PNC Arena, the team announced Johnson had been suspended indefinitely for a violation of the student-athlete code of conduct and gave no timetable for his return.
