The NC State softball team capped off a 4-0 weekend by hitting four home runs in a 9-1 rout of Campbell on Sunday morning at Dail Stadium.
Two of the Pack’s (11-6) four homers came from junior outfielder Brigette Nordberg, who now has 11 home runs on the season. Nordberg went 3 for 4 with three runs and four RBIs behind six innings and one run given up to Campbell (5-13) by junior pitcher Devin Wallace.
NC State got three runs right out of the gate in the first inning. Sophomore outfielder Sam Russ drew a leadoff walk to set up Nordberg for her first bomb of the game, a two-run shot. The Pack went back-to-back as junior infielder Skylar Johnston followed her up with a solo homer of her own.
The third inning saw a similar result as Nordberg led off the inning with her second home run. This time it was sophomore infielder Logan Morris two batters later who tacked on another one over the fence to go up 5-0.
The Fighting Camels scored their only run in the fifth inning following up a single with an RBI double to get on the board. However, the Pack was able to answer back in the bottom half with a two-out, two-RBI single from redshirt sophomore infielder Randi Farricker that scored Morris and senior infielder Natalie Jones.
A couple more insurance runs were added in the sixth inning. Sophomore infielder Chandley Garner led off the inning with a single and scored on a Nordberg double, who later scored when Johnston reached on an error to end the game.
NC State outscored opponents 27-2 this weekend, beating Kansas, Charleston Southern and Campbell twice. The Pack hit 11 home runs over four games, three coming off the bat of Nordberg.
NC State will turn its focus to Valparaiso, who comes to Raleigh to face the red-hot Wolfpack on Tuesday for a noon first pitch.
