He took a circuitous route to get there, but Thomas Allen will play basketball for NC State after all. The 6-foot-1 shooting guard announced Friday that he will transfer into the Wolfpack’s program.

Allen was previously committed to start his college basketball career at NC State with the 2017-18 season, having signed under former Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried. However, when NC State dismissed Gottfried following the 2016-17 season and replaced him with current head coach Kevin Keatts, Allen requested his release and went to Nebraska.

“After talking with my family, I’ve decided to transfer to NC State to finish out my education and basketball career,” Allen tweeted. “Want to thank @CoachKeattsNCSU for the opportunity. Let’s Go! #WPN.”

After playing sparingly his freshman year at Nebraska, Allen averaged 8.7 points and 30.2 minutes per game as a sophomore.

Under NCAA rules, Allen will have to sit out the coming season and will have two years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2020-21 season.
