In May 2018, it was announced that the technology company Citrix would collaborate with Bewegen Technologies and the city of Raleigh to bring a bike-sharing program to downtown Raleigh.
Citrix Cycle is a dock-based system that allows users of the bikes to check out bikes at one of 30 designated stations located around the city and return them at any other station.
This comes after dockless ride-share programs have become available to citizens of Raleigh through Lime bikes, Lime scooters and Bird scooters. Though bikes have yet to appear on the docks and are not available to Raleigh yet, the city, Bewegen and Citrix are making final preparations to launch the carbon-emission-friendly program soon.
According to the News & Observer, the cost for a single ride is $2 for the first 45 minutes and then $2 for each additional 30 minutes it has been in use, in order to prevent users from taking the bikes away from the main area where bikes will be located. Additionally, a discount for students will be available. Students may purchase an annual pass for $65, and qualifying low-income residents can obtain an annual pass for $10.
The projected total cost of the project is $1.6 million with the city of Raleigh providing $175,000 and Wake County funding $170,000. For more information, students can visit the Citrix Cycle website.
