After getting originally postponed to January, NC State’s annual homecoming concert has officially been canceled, according to a tweet by the University Activities Board (UAB). There has been little information as to why the concert has been cancelled.
UAB has provided minimal communication in general regarding the event. The organization’s website has not been updated with concert information since last year.
The postponed concert was announced in a tweet on Jan. 2, which has since been deleted. While the tweet no longer exists, replies to it still persist, such as one by DJ Trellz, an artist originally scheduled to perform at the event.
In an email statement sent to a Technician reporter in late October, Raven D. Blount, president of the UAB board and a fourth-year studying nutrition science and Spanish, explained the reasoning for the change of date.
“Unfortunately, I and the rest of the University Activities Board members are unavailable at this time to discuss the homecoming concert or the lack thereof on such short notice,” Blount said in an email. “In general, our decision to move the concert that we have traditionally hosted during homecoming week was the result of various factors, many of which were out of our control.”
Blount went on to say that the concert would be moved to January 31, 2019.
Imani Starling-Brown, the UAB board’s vice president of communication and a fourth-year studying fashion and textile management, and Blount were asked about the January cancellation and both declined to comment. Jessica Murphy, director of Student Involvement, also declined to comment.
