With a 4-2 win over Virginia at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex Sunday, NC State club hockey capped an undefeated season at 25-0 with an ACCHL championship.
Senior captain Sam Banasciewicz scored the winning goal for the Pack with about seven minutes left in the third period, and senior goalie Joey Hall picked up the win in net.
After the teams entered the final frame tied at one, Virginia took an early 2-1 lead. The Wolfpack answered quickly, however; as junior Ian O’Rourke tied the game with a shot from the point.
Senior Ryan Kinney opened the scoring for NC State in the first period, and Virginia tied the game in the second to send things to the final frame at a deadlock.
NC State graduate defenseman Eric Mura was named tournament MVP, according to the team’s official website.
NC State advanced to the title game after defeating St. Joseph’s in the quarterfinals and Wake Forest in the semifinals.
The Pack will play in regionals in Lynchburg, Virginia March 2.
