NC State has 25 former players in the NFL currently, including three starting quarterbacks. Technician is going to look at how the three starting quarterbacks, Phillip Rivers of the Los Angeles Chargers, Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks and Jacoby Brissett of the Indianapolis Colts, and other skill position players such as running back Nyheim Hines of the Indianapolis Colts and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers of the New England Patriots are producing for fantasy football owners.
Phillip Rivers, Quarterback, Los Angeles Chargers
In his 16th year in the league, Rivers is still producing for the Chargers. In terms of wins and losses, Rivers is not having the season he would have hoped for currently as the Chargers sit at 2-4.
In terms of fantasy football, Rivers had his best game of the season in week one when he racked up 23.9 points per reception after throwing for 333 yards and three touchdowns against the Colts.
Rivers is usually a pretty safe bet as a starter in 10- or 12-team leagues, or a high-level backup in fantasy football. The only game where Rivers has failed to get in double digit PPR was in week five against the Denver Broncos, when he threw two interceptions and only totaled 4.1 PPR.
According to ESPN fantasy football experts, in week seven against the Titans, Rivers is projected for 15.2 PPR.
Russell Wilson, Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks
Wilson has been by far one of the best three quarterbacks in the league so far this season. His great production is evident in his fantasy numbers. The Seahawks are currently 5-1, coming off a big road win against the Cleveland Browns.
In the Seahawks’ lone loss this year at home against the New Orleans Saints, Wilson had his biggest game yet in fantasy PPR with 43.3. He threw for 406 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for two scores as well.
The past two weeks Wilson has racked up on the points as well with 29.9 PPR points against the Los Angeles Rams in week five and 28.9 PPR against the Browns this past week.
This week Wilson and the Seahawks will be up against the Baltimore Ravens at home, and ESPN Fantasy experts do not expect Wilson to slow down, as he is projected to put up 21.9 PPR. Let’s just say that fantasy football owners who picked Wilson in the draft are happy people right now.
Jacoby Brissett, Quarterback, Indianapolis Colts
In his first season as the full-time starter for the Colts, Brissett has been a consistent mid-level fantasy quarterback, only scoring under 16.3 PPR once, which was his last game on the road at the Chiefs, ironically in a game that they won.
Brissett had his best game of the season fantasy-wise in week four against the Raiders when he put up 22.5 PPR, while throwing for 265 yards and three touchdowns. Brissett has settled in well as the Colts’ QB1, leading the team to a 3-2 record so far.
Brissett and the Colts had their bye week last week and will face the Green Bay Packers on the road this week. ESPN Fantasy Football experts give him a projected score of 17.1 PPR for the matchup.
Nyheim Hines, Running Back, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts running back has not been much of a factor this year in the ground game, with his best game on the ground only being in week one for 13 yards, but has found success in the passing game with Brissett.
In the Colts’ past two games, Hines has put in season-high PPR with 10.5 against the Raiders and 8.5 against the Chiefs. Hines racked in 10 catches for 85 yards in those two games.
However, if Hines wants to become a reliable choice for fantasy owners, he will have to become more of a red zone threat, as he has yet to score a touchdown this season.
ESPN Fantasy Football experts project Hines to total 7.4 PPR this week against the Texans.
Jakobi Meyers, Wide Receiver, New England Patriots
The rookie who came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent has exceeded all expectations by finding some success in the New England offense.
In last week’s game, under the Thursday night lights against the Giants, Meyers had his best game of the year with four catches for 54 yards, which gave him 9.4 PPR.
As Patriots quarterback Tom Brady becomes more and more comfortable with the rookie, I can see his fantasy production increasing as the season moves on. If you have an open spot on your bench, I would consider picking up Meyers as a backup wide receiver to play, if one of your starters is injured or on a bye week.
Despite the performance last week, ESPN Fantasy Football experts project Meyers to only produce 3.5 PPR points this week.
