This week, sports has plenty to offer. Men and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, and football all have key games this week, most of which are home games that students can enjoy.
Thursday, Sept. 5
7:00 p.m. Women’s soccer vs Iowa (Dail Soccer Field)
The women’s soccer team has its first home game of the season against the Iowa Hawkeyes (4-0). The Wolfpack has a 2-1 record after starting off the season on the road. The Wolfpack should be excited to kick off opening day at home against an undefeated team. The Hawkeyes won by only one goal in the past two games, so the soccer team needs to work both sides of the ball if they want to win at home.
Friday, Sept. 6
7 p.m. Men’s soccer vs Longwood (Dail Soccer Field)
Men’s soccer goes against the Longwood Lancers (1-0) at home. The Wolfpack is currently 1-1, coming off an intense double OT defeat against St. John’s at home. With goalies Leon Krapf and Vinnie Durand holding both games to only one goal each, and the defense only allowing four shots on goal, the Wolfpack should be able to focus more on offense. This will be the last home game until Sept. 14, so make sure to show out.
Saturday, Sept. 7
12:30 p.m. Football vs Western Carolina (Carter-Finley Stadium)
The NC State football team takes on the WCU Catamounts (0-1) for the first time since 2010. After a large Wolfpack win against ECU, the team looks to keep the momentum going into this Saturday.
This day is also Ag Day, a day that showcases the agricultural department. For the marching band, this is also high school Band Day, where high school students join the Power Sound of the South on the field.
Sunday, Sept. 8
1:00 p.m. Women’s soccer vs Duquesne (Dail Soccer Field)
The women’s soccer team will go against the Duquesne Dukes (1-1-2) for its second home game this season. After a few days to rest from its first home game, the Wolfpack takes on the Dukes at Dail Soccer Field. Duquesne University, out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be coming out of a double-OT win at home and a whole week of rest, a disadvantage for the Wolfpack. Nonetheless, it should be an exciting game on both sides of the ball.
Tuesday, Sept. 10
7:00 p.m. Volleyball vs ECU (Reynolds Coliseum)
After a long three-day stretch of games this weekend, the volleyball team gets a rest and is back at it with a game against the ECU Pirates (2-0). The Pirates will be coming back from the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida. These two volleyball teams have not played each other since 2011, so this match should bring new challenges and new competition for the Wolfpack. The Pirates finished last year with a 13-16 record, while the Wolfpack went 15-13.
