In celebration of the LGBTQ+ community of Durham, Raleigh and the surrounding area, Durham and Raleigh will both be hosting separate Pride celebrations Saturday, Sept. 28. Durham’s festival will be split up into day and night events.
According to the Pride: Durham, NC website, Durham will be hosting a festival featuring drag performers, food trucks and live music from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Duke University campus. There will be a parade beginning at 11 a.m. Live performances will begin at 1 p.m. and will feature Gemynii as DJ, local drag performers and LoamLands, a queer storytelling band based in N.C.
The night events for Pride: Durham, NC will be held at Durham Central Park and will open at 5 p.m. Food trucks and vendors will be present. Candis Cox, a gender and sexuality educator, will emcee performances by SWSH, Sateen, PlayPlay, Le1f and Shea Diamond.
Raleigh’s NC Pride at Night celebration will begin at 4 p.m., near Legends Nightclub at the intersection of Hargett Street and Harrington Street, and will feature drag shows, live music and a performance by Todrick Hall at 8:30 p.m. A drag show and pageant will occur at 7 p.m. The event is being sponsored by local businesses, including Flex Raleigh, House of Swank and Mercedes-Benz of Durham, as well as city council candidates Jonathan Melton (at-large) and Saige Martin (District D).
