The opening game of the season for Wolfpack football headlines this weekend’s full slate of home sports games, but it is not the only can’t-miss game of the weekend with volleyball and men’s soccer both playing twice. Here are the home games for NC State scheduled for this upcoming week.
Friday, Aug. 30
1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Volleyball doubleheader (Reynolds Coliseum)
Volleyball has its first set of games on Friday with the Wolfpack taking on Austin Peay at 1 p.m. and Kansas State at 7 p.m. The Pack finished last season with a record of 15-13 and did not face either of these opponents last season. Austin Peay finished 2018 with a record of 27-5 and will be a tough test as an opener for the Wolfpack. Kansas State finished last year with a record of 15-12. You can read more about the doubleheader here.
7 p.m. Men’s soccer vs. Loyola (Dail Soccer Field)
Men’s soccer will open regular season play against Loyola after impressing in the preseason with exhibition wins over both UNC-Chapel Hill and VCU. The Wolfpack looks to be in for an exciting year with players like junior David Loera and senior Gabriel Machado already firing on all cylinders and new players such as transfer Jaime Smith hitting the ground running. Add to the atmosphere provided at Dail Soccer Field by the Red Terrors, catching a soccer game this year should be on every student’s to-do list. You can read more on the matchup here.
Saturday, Aug. 31
12 p.m. Football vs ECU (Carter-Finley Stadium)
Football opens its season at home against ECU who the Wolfpack thrashed last season by a score of 58-3. The Pirates barely racked up over 100 yards in the losing effort but the game will likely not be as brutal this year. The Wolfpack lost a lot of players both to the NFL draft and graduation with stars like Ryan Finley, Reggie Gallaspy Jr., Kelvin Harmon and a number of others departing from the Wolfpack last year. With redshirt sophomore Matt McKay starting at quarterback, this game is sizing up to be a good one. Sunday, Sept. 1
7 p.m. Men’s soccer vs St. John’s (Dail Soccer Field)
The second game of the weekend for men’s soccer will be against St. John’s. The Red Storm is off to a fine start to the season with three 1-0 wins already under its belt, two of which were exhibitions. Like the Wolfpack, St. Johns will be coming off of a short rest following a game on Friday, Aug. 30. The Red Storm finished 2018 with a record of 7-8-3.
