Dear Technician readers,
In the last few years, Technician Sports has seen substantial growth and improvement in content, both online and in print, as the section moved to cover all NC State varsity teams and local professional teams.
Much of that credit can go to the previous two editors, Andrew Schnittker and Alec Sawyer. The two recent NC State graduates made sure the three of us were qualified and ready to fill the big footprints they left.
Our main goal in the next year is to build on what they put down for a base in the sports section. We plan to do this by accomplishing a series of goals put together at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year.
As the world evolves and technology usage continues to increase and expand, we feel it is only right for us to adapt with the times and constantly improve upon our already expansive live game coverage on Twitter.
One way we plan to do this is by keeping the @TechSports Twitter account focused on NC State sports as much as possible. In order to do this, live tweeting of professional games (Carolina Hurricanes, NC Courage and NCFC) will be mostly moved to the individual writers’ personal Twitter accounts. Stories will still be tweeted from the main account, but all live coverage will be from the writers’ accounts.
Another way we plan to enhance our live game coverage on Twitter is by focusing less on play-by-play and more on analytics and statistics. This will also be accompanied by an increase of photos from our fantastic photographers being put out on Twitter during games. Rather than tell our followers what happens in every minute, we want to create a big picture of what is happening in the game, specifically highlighting themes and in-game trends.
Club sports at NC State are no longer looked at as an extension of intramural sports; they’re growing at a fast pace and are as competitive as sports can get, so we feel that our coverage of the most active club sports, most specifically tournaments and big events, should continue to grow alongside them.
One thing Andrew and Alec started under their time here was the Technician Sports podcast, First and Tech. The three of us want to take that and really make it an option for NC State students and fans to listen to for Pack sports updates.
Lastly, as important as we know live game coverage and stories to be, few things encompass the atmosphere and allure of a sporting event like pictures and videos. We want to increase the number of multimedia assets we include on our website in order to give readers not just a picture painted by words, but pictures and videos straight from the source.
If any reader has any questions, concerns or suggestions for Technician Sports, don’t hesitate to email us at [email protected].
