The NC State football team will have another offensive weapon to replace next season, as redshirt junior wide receiver Jakobi Meyers declared for the NFL draft Tuesday.
Meyers broke the Wolfpack record for single-season receptions in 2018, hauling in 92 catches. He will join fellow junior wide receiver Kelvin Harmon, who declared at the beginning of December and sat out NC State’s bowl game in the draft. Meyers graduated in December.
“I came to NC State a kid chasing two dreams,” Meyers told NC State Athletics. “I’m leaving a man with one dream fulfilled and hopefully another on the way. I would like to thank coach [Dave] Doeren, [wide receiver] coach [George] McDonald, my teammates and all the staff here at NC State for helping me get to this position.”
Meyers started his Wolfpack career as a quarterback, but made a very successful transition to receiver. He had a breakout season in 2017 and followed that up with one of the best seasons for a receiver in program history. Meyers finished his NC State career with 168 receptions, the fifth-most in school history.
“It has been a joy to coach Jakobi and watch him mature as a player and a person,” Doeren said. “We wish him the best and know that he will always be a part of the Wolfpack family.”
