Raleigh’s budget for the Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) has recently been approved, refining aspects of the city’s workforce policy, modernizing parts of the fire and police departments and funding water and sewer system maintenance.

The city’s budget totals $1.04 billion, up 6.7% from the Fiscal Year 2019 budget. A fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following calendar year.

The budget increased Raleigh’s living wage rate from $30,340 to $32,090 for full-time employees.

Funding in the budget was also allocated for replacing two engines from the Fire Department’s fleet, improvements to the southeast police district, and several new positions at the city level in planning departments.

Raleigh’s Affordable Housing Improvement Plan also received $13.6 million from the budget toward new construction and upkeep. Water and sewer systems will receive $180.8 million toward infrastructure maintenance, and $72.5 million will be allocated toward street maintenance.

The budget will be released in full on June 28 through the City of Raleigh’s website.
