In its annual Play4Kay game, the No. 8 NC State women’s basketball team lost its third of its last four games, falling to Duke 70-65 inside Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack’s offense was out of sorts yet again as it struggled to consistently score the ball. Here are some key numbers from the Pack’s loss.
18 — Days in between double-doubles for sophomore center Elissa Cunane. With 23 points and 12 rebounds, Cunane notched her 13th double-double of the season and first since a Feb. 6 win over Virginia Tech.
30 — Shooting percentage by everyone outside of Cunane and freshman forward Jada Boyd. The two bigs combined to shoot 74% from the field and the rest of the team connected on just 10 of 33 shots.
23 — Points off turnovers NC State allowed Duke to score. The Wolfpack committed 16 turnovers and Duke made the Pack pay for every one as the Blue Devils consistently scored in transition after NC State giveaways.
51 — Points scored in Cunane’s two Play4Kay games. After scoring 28 points against Notre Dame last year, the star center scored 23 Monday night on 8-for-10 shooting from the field and a 6-for-6 mark from the free-throw line.
0:00 — Time leading for NC State. Duke took an early lead and never looked back as the Wolfpack never got over the hump. NC State cut the deficit to one possession multiple times but was never able to get the stop and score necessary to complete a comeback.
1 — Wolfpack starter who scored in double figures. Offense was again at a premium for NC State and the Wolfpack was never able to find its rhythm. Outside of Cunane’s 23 points, no NC State starter scored more than nine points.
45 — Points scored by Duke guard Haley Gorecki in two games against NC State this year. Despite some tough defense on Gorecki by senior guard Aislinn Konig and freshman wing Jakia Brown-Turner, Gorecki got hers at will in the second half of Monday’s game, scoring 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
25 — 3-point shooting percentage by NC State. The Wolfpack continued its struggles from deep that has plagued the team over the last couple weeks. Konig knocked down 2 of 9 shots from deep and no one else on the team hit multiple 3-pointers.
