The NC State women’s tennis team is set to compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Chicago this weekend from Feb. 7-10.
No. 8 NC State (9-1) is coming off a dominant 6-1 victory against Kansas. In the match, the Wolfpack won the doubles point with top-ranked doubles partners senior Anna Rogers and sophomore Alana Smith winning their eighth straight doubles match and No. 22 doubles partners junior Jaeda Daniel and senior Adriana Reami winning their match as well. The Wolfpack would also only lose one singles match in singles play.
This tournament features several top-ranked women’s tennis teams including No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 Texas, No. 9 Florida State, No. 10 Michigan, No. 11 Virginia, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 17 Princeton and No. 22 Georgia Tech.
NC State (9-1) will kick off the tournament facing Princeton (3-0) Friday, Feb. 7. If the Wolfpack wins, it will face the winner of Arizona State and North Carolina on Saturday. Although Georgia won last year, the championship is up for grabs for most of the teams competing.
NC State has an advantage in doubles play with the No. 1 doubles duo of Rogers and Smith and No. 22 doubles duo of Daniel and Reami. Rogers, Reami, and Smith are also top-ranked singles players as well, with Rogers being ranked at No. 18, Reami at No. 23 and Smith at No. 31. The Wolfpack is in good shape to make a name for itself in the tournament, if it hasn’t already.
The first match for NC State will begin Friday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at the XS Tennis Village.
